"THE PRICE IS RIGHT" APPEARANCE EXPOSES WORKERS' COMPENSATION FRAUD
Of interest to the defense community is the following story from Fayetteville, North Carolina:A postal carrier plead guilty to workers' compensation fraud after her appearance on The Price is Right game show. On the show, she displayed physical abilities she claimed impossible since her 2004 on-the-job injury.Cathy Wrench Cashwell filed for workers' compensation citing her inability to "stand, sit, kneel, squat, climb, bend, reach or grasp" according to her 2011 worker's comp paperwork and claimed she could not lift mail trays.The indictment against her, filed last September, alleges that she lied in her claim and that her two forceful spins of the "Big Wheel" on The Price is Right game show revealed her capabilities. During the investigation, other evidence of her partaking in the recreational sport of zip lining in 2010 on a Carnival Cruise was found.Private investigator Allison Blackman remarked, "I've seen every kind of case you can see. Sometimes you have to get in the woods and bushes. The secret is you've got to have your camera up, when they do what they're doing."In this case, the cameras were already rolling in plain view assisting in the sentencing scheduled for September."
